The Puzzle That is Beauty

Hullo guys! I'm soooo sorry I can't give you a drawing, but I'm away from home at the moment. But; I have one more Just Thoughts, and this one means quite a lot to me. So, here it is, The Puzzle That is Beauty. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a lazy Sunday morning, and my family and I were parked in front of the television. As we watched, one of the most renowned beauty pageants in India began airing. A thought struck me, as I watched the contestants with their flawless skin and flowing locks. Not how ravishing the dresses were, or the confidence with which the competitors carried themselves - what struck me was exactly how manufactured all of it was. It all seemed so artificial, so manmade. Even the performances with the shining lights, they all seemed tailored and manipulated as to appeal only to the parts of us that crave perfection and nothing else. When you're younge...

Effective Planning Leads to Better Results

Image
Hullo! I'm terribly sorry! It's been too long, but we have too much work as well. For those who are a bit confused, I just started school again, and it is chaotic. Not two weeks in, we have at least 3 projects on hold. It doesn't help that I have one more subject to study. Any way, I don't want to bore you anymore, so I have two posts!😉 One is a piece of advice on studying (aka this one) the other (coming tomorrow, don't be mad😌) is a brand new sketch from the Pencil💛 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Effective Planning Leads to Better Results With most of us on the brink of higher standards, all the students must inevitably be thinking of burning the midnight oil. But this can easily be avoided by following a few simple study tips. With everything from schedules to eating habits, I've got your back. The most basic part of planning for a brand new year is makin...

Anne Frank: My Thoughts

Image
Hullo! I recently read (and by that I mean I finished it roughly 15 minutes ago) the Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, and to say that I enjoyed it would be a gross understatement. It has reached out to me in ways that no other book has done, and it would not do to leave this piece of literary genius un-commented on. I started the book expecting a diary. Maybe some parts touching. I most definitely did not expect a full account of all of Anne's woes, the petty fights at the Annexe, the small things in life she lived for. I did not expect a tale that was something of an inspiration. The previous year we had a small comprehension on extracts from the book. There is absolutely no way a few lines or paragraphs could show exactly how touching this book could be. One must read the whole of it to comprehend exactly how much of Anne's life was changed. I've had something of an existential crisis after finishing it. The thing that struck me was how Anne seemed to be strangel...

The Dummies' Guide to Expression

Image
Hullo! Back with a new post. So sorry it couldn't be a drawing, but I promise that's coming soon too. More on today's topic, a "Dummies' Guide" is essentially something difficult or challenging to understand, explained in layman's terms. I'm gonna explain expression using writing in the way that I conceive it. To most people, writing is an art shrouded with the misconception that 'only those who can do it can it.' It is actually quite contrary. Expression comes from within, and it is important to know how to do it, rather than thinking you don't have the talent. And of course, you can't express without language. The limits of your language are the limits of your world. And a different language is a different vision of the world. The first step is to know the language well. Vocabulary, grammar, you must know everything like the back of your own hand. This may sound really intimidating, but its not that arduous. As the saying goes, pra...

The Lady in White

Image
Hullo! I'm back with a new post, and this is my absolute favourite drawing I have ever made. Though I can't take all the credit for it. My cousin, Eshan Yagnik, did this thing where he decided to help me halfway through (seeing I was not making any progress) and draw a bit ( okay a lot)  of the basic design. I'm aware that this one of the simpler designs, but that is what gives it a sense of class, I would say. Here it is, something that I can only classify as a joint effort, The Lady in White. (sidenote- I imagined this scene in late 19th century London. It might help if you do the same) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The lady in white sauntered down the bustling London street. Full as it was of smog, dirt, and the stench of a crowd, she meandered through, more gliding then walking. Her hat was a delicate thing, with a wide brim and a soft velvet bow. It was pulled low, co...

A Starry, Starry Night

Image
Hullo! Its sooo good to be back! This may be one of the best feelings in the world, I tell you. The summer holidays are on, and I'm quite sure these temperatures have never been recorded before. I needed to find something to fill my time, so I have begun sketching and occasionally painting. I'm so pleased, I've decided this *needs* an exclusive label. So, ladies and gentlemen (drumroll) I present to you, The Pencil. What I've decided is that I will be posting each of my paintings with an individual description written just for it. I stayed up almost all night doing this one, and its called a Starry, Starry Night. (Kinda like Coldplay, 🎶 look at the stars, look how they shine for you🎶) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The stars looked like silver powder sprinkled along a dark background. They glimmered and gleamed, lighting up the darkness. The moon kept watch over the...

Rumors, Myths, Stories.........

Image
Hullo!! So, I know I said after exams, but I got an amazing idea and really didn't know if my brain would decide to retain it until after April 12, so here I am!!! 💚💛 My topic for today is Rumors, Myths and Stories. This has a lot more to write on than you think at first glance. Think about the last time that you passed on a story to someone. It may have been funny, or entertaining, or informational. That's no problem.   Now,   think about some tiny detail that you might have gotten wrong. As we humans are impossible social animals, we can be quite sure that this story is gonna get passed on to at least one person. What if that person gets one more tiny detail wrong? We all know where this chain is going. We've all   experienced  this at some point of time.   May have even contributed to it.  It's one of the reasons Chinese Whispers is such a laugh. I'm sure all of you are thinking, what DOES this have to do with rumors? Well, it's what happens when ...

Just Stuff

I'm soooooooo sorry, but this post is just to inform ya'll that I won't be able to post anything much for the next few weeks. I have my annual exams coming up, and its safe to say that I'm drowning in work! (lol) This also kinda explains why I haven't    written anything much for the past few weeks. But I promise you,  I'll be back in the summer break. On top of that I've hit a mild writer's block. So, moral of the story, in the summer break, thepenandthemusicalnote.blogspot.in will be going full speed ahead.

An Open Letter To Future Me

Image
This is bit of an unusual topic, but all of my posts are gonna be now! I first got the idea for this from a video made by Troye Sivan, Dear Future Me . So here it is, An Open Letter to Future Me. Hullo. This should be quite easy, since I'm writing to the person I know best, yours truly. I have a few questions for you, me. Have you joined any new fandoms? Hopefully, yes. Read the Hunger Games yet? Hopefully, no. Still in love with music? Maybe. Made new friends? I certainly hope so, right now you're short on them. What about painting? Got anywhere with that? I doubt it.  Also, one more piece of advice. Don't care about what people say, don't grow up so fast. Take your time with it. Act mad, crazy, even, when life calls for it. Don't become like those cliché teenagers or popular girls you hate. No matter what people say, don't turn yourself into a stereotype. I don't say this to just me, but every single person reading this. Be yourself. Next, I really hop...

Words Come to Life

Hullo!!! I'm soooooo Sorry I haven't written for a while, but how could I help it? I had no good ideas and none of my essays really seemed good enough. After all, its quality to quantity. But, here I am with a new story. So, enjoy!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Words Come To Life As I entered the ramshackled house, I saw something really strange. The roaring fireplace was crackling in the fireplace, although the place had probably not been tended to in forever. I noticed a patch of silvery light on the couch. As I watched, it shimmered and took on a human shape. I ran out of the shack and into the dark shadows. I think that I did a pretty good job on that. This was an extract from my new book, and I just got back from the reading for it. By the way, my name is Annabelle Jenkins and I write horror stories. I stepped into my comfortable and frankly quite large apartment, but I ...

Just Thoughts

So as the title suggests, I'm gonna be doing something a bit different today. I normally blog on things that are really concrete and easy to put into a box with a title, etc etc. Today's blog is just some thoughts I've had in my head forever, but I don't think it falls into a category.  It's Just Thoughts. The first thing, why do people always think from only one side of the story? This applies in many situations. Books, real life, reel life. And, more than often its the side that the story is being told from. nobody thought about how Peter Pettigrew had been compelled to join Voldemort only because he was the one overlooked from the Marauders. Nobody thought about how in Mahabharata, Duryodhana fought that war only because he had been told, in fact, assured that he would be king. All his life. That idea is quite frankly very debated, but my sister and I have had too many discussions on it to be ignored. Second, why is 'A first impression a last impression?...

A Memorable Experiance

Image
Hullo! So we all know that pretty recently, the wonder of wonders happened. The international band, Coldplay graced India with their presence. And I had the privilege of being there (!!!). This is my write up for the Trinity exam that I will be giving, the topic being 'A Memorable Experience' This is pretty much the most memorable thing to ever happen to me. So, here it is, The Global Citizen Festival India 2016. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Memorable Experience 19th November, 2016 was arguably one of the best nights of my life. It was the day of the Global Citizen Festival in India, and I was attending. Let me begin at the beginning. I was delivered the news that the phenomenal and highly famous band, Coldplay, was coming to India by my Trinity teacher, Mrs. Karekar herself. She read out an article for us at class and said that most of the tickets were complimentary, being won...

A Diary Entry

Hullo!!! I'm back! Really sorry for the delay 😶 I was on my school tour last week. Also, Happy New Year. Hopefully 2017 will treat us better than 2016! (Lol😁) Sooooo, here I have a diary entry written for school in Grade 6. Hope you like it! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Diary, I'm so sorry for not writing for sometime. The thing is that Ganesh Chaturthi was just around the corner, so I was really busy. But now since it is over I can tell, taking my own sweet time. So, I missed the decorations. Ganpati was at my aunt's house, as always. I feel like her Ganpati is the family's Ganpati. Back to the point, I missed decoration because of my Trinity exam. the whole time, there was only one thing in my mind, 'This better be good, because I missed the best part of the celebrations for it.' the Ganpati was eco-friendly, made with clay and painted with organic pastes...
