A Memorable Experiance

Hullo! So we all know that pretty recently, the wonder of wonders happened. The international band, Coldplay graced India with their presence. And I had the privilege of being there (!!!). This is my write up for the Trinity exam that I will be giving, the topic being 'A Memorable Experience' This is pretty much the most memorable thing to ever happen to me. So, here it is, The Global Citizen Festival India 2016.

A Memorable Experience
19th November, 2016 was arguably one of the best nights of my life. It was the day of the Global Citizen Festival in India, and I was attending. Let me begin at the beginning. I was delivered the news that the phenomenal and highly famous band, Coldplay, was coming to India by my Trinity teacher, Mrs. Karekar herself. She read out an article for us at class and said that most of the tickets were complimentary, being won by by people who signed petitions for the good of the people and helped us achieve the goals of Education, Gender Equality and Water and Sanitation.

The main reason I was delighted by this was that I could do social work sitting in front of my desktop and help myself win tickets as well. I signed a whole bunch of online petitions and sent emails to many world leaders, asking for their help to achieve our SDGs, sustainable development goals. I still have a Global Citizen account and am active to this day. Finally, the day of the announcement of the winners came. I was waiting with bated breath for the email to arrive in my inbox. When it finally did, I was absolutely flabbergasted to know that I had won not only one, but two tickets! I was dancing the whole day. The wait felt like way to long. The reason I was so excited was the fact that I was going to be seeing some of the true alumni of the music world such as Coldplay, Jay Z, Demi Lovato, A.R Rahman and countless others, all while working for an amazing cause.

Even the night before the concert, my brain refused to accept that I was going to see The Vamps live! It all felt like a distant fantasy until the moment I was actually at the venue. And what a venue it was! The stage had been set up at an unfathomable scale, and the whole place was equipped with the state of the art sound system. The scheduled to begin at 1 pm and go on until 10 pm at night, being like all day fiesta. There was a plethora of performers, and if I talk about all of them, I'm sure we'll be here for at least another hour. So, I am just going to touch upon highlights, of the day. There was Demi Lovato's performance, the first international performance. She completely rocked the stage with her chart-busters 'Stone Cold', 'Heart Attack', 'Cool for the Summer' and 'Confident'. Next was A.R. Rahman whose rendition of the classic song, 'Humma' had the audience on their feet and dancing. Then Jay Z killed with his never ending raps and constant energy. In my opinion, this was the performance with the energy to rival Chis Martin himself. But, honestly, my favourite part of the evening was The Vamps. They are my absolute favourites, and I couldn't speak for a sore throat after their performance. Lastly, but certainly not the least, Coldplay themselves. Words cannot describe how energetic and driven they were on stage. It was seen clearly now much they loved their job, and the audience. The best part, Coldplay was only supposed to perform for one and a half hour, but they extended it to two hours! The song I loved the most, 'Adventure of a Lifetime' lived up to my expectations and far beyond them. I just really in disbelief after the concert.

I had the privilege of being first row. I was actually on T.V quite a few times, and once in the same frame as Bradley Simpson! But that was definitely not the highlight of the day. It was Chris Martin contributing his voice soothing and warm voice to our song 'Vande Mataram', along with the highly accomplished A.R. Rahman. It was almost like he was specially serenading us. I had gone with my closest friend, Aashna (as a side-note, her name literally means 'friendship'). Both of us are die-hard Coldplay fans, so we were all into it.

I described the next few weeks as my 'Coldplay Hangover', because literally song I sang eventually faded into 'Hymn for the Weekend'. All in all, it was an exhilarating experience and I will always hold it close to my heart, since it was something that happens only once in a lifetime.
