Just Thoughts, Revisited.
I did this three years ago, but I'd hope that my thought processes have evolved since then. So I'm trying this again. This is a place for stuff that floats around in my head but I can't make full posts out of them. We won't talk about the You-Know-What, because today I saw that the sky looked pretty and had a breakdown, so clearly I can't take this somber mood anymore. My denial will continue to be my shield. Here it is... Just Thoughts again.
I've been watching a lot of K-Pop recently, due to a general lack of a life, and that industry has some of the most talented humans I've come across. They're the kind of human that you look at and your heart hurts from appreciation, you know? They (especially Ten from NCT) led me to contemplate excellence. The pursuit of excellence is a holy quest, but a foolhardy one. Why would you work that hard? To leave a mark, I guess? But human excellence isn't as simple as that. We want to paint Da Vincis but I can't even touch elementary school crayon scratches. You'll be appreciated for a few years, then what? Why wither away in practice rooms, libraries and labs? Maybe you get satisfaction out of the labor, or you're not doing it for yourself. The human animal's ways to keep itself entertained are numerous, it seems.
Which takes me to the next topic, the constant ability to innovate. Humanity has a thirst to observe, a thirst to understand. I'd go as far as to say its the purpose of our existence. What I studied in school, I took as fact. As far as I was concerned, my textbooks were gospel.. until one day they suddenly weren't. It hit me that what I'm learning today could be proved grossly untrue, like, tomorrow. There was a time people didn't know a nucleus existed, what if we find out white is black and the sun is made of hedgehogs? (okay, not that far, but you know what I mean) That's precisely why I think we are where we are. Human ideation never stops, and that both amazes and scares me.
Moving into pop culture, does anyone remember the enigma character? Like that one public figure who you were never quite sure about. Andy Warhol and Freddie Mercury are some people that come to mind right away.. but they're from decades ago. I think the loss of the enigma character is a consequence of the changing media landscape. In those times information came from magazine and newspaper interviews, where matter was controlled and people were - almost weirdly - private. It was a good strategy.. it kept people interested and kept your privacy. But now.. well. Social media has made it so easy for people to broadcast their lives.. so they.. monetize... everything? I don't know have advisable that is, but I want the enigma character back. That kind of fame has a great appeal to me.
Another jump: I believe everyone in this world has their own language. I can't really explain it... but maybe this little poem gives you an idea of what I mean.
im quite quiet for this party.

im quite quiet for this party.
not because i cant see the lights.
not because i dont hear the sound.
but because i dont speak their language,
because i find it diffficult to drown.
I'm not looking down on those who enjoy chaos, I'm just saying that even if I become fluent in that language, I'll always have an accent. I'll never be completely comfortable outside my natural inclinations... no matter how much I change. Everyone has their language, and if you're lucky you wind up with people that speak something close to yours.
I suppose that brings me to the end of this. This was written as an escape, as a way out, and if you want a way out too, leave your Just Thoughts in the comments. It's good to write again. Thanks for reading, I'll see you in a bit.
